National Science day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at MIT School of Bioengineering Sciences and Research(MITBIO) on Saturday,27th February 2021 through virtual platform. The event commemorates the discovery of Raman Effect by Sir C. V. Raman. The seminar was attended by research scholars and bioengineering students. The chief guest Dr. Sharmila Mande (Distinguished Chief Scientist, TCS Research) inaugurated the event. Her talk was on gut microbiome where she spoke about the diversity of microbes in and on the human body, and bioinformatics tool to explore them. Her work also showed how gut microbiota has been associated with chronic diseases and different metabolic conditions. The event was convened by Dr.Renu Vyas, Head of School, MITBIO.
Later there was a scientific talk session byDr. Natalie Artzi (Assistant Professor at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Cambridge) and Dr. Ajay Vishwakarma (Founder and CEO of Cell BioEngines, Boston). Dr. Natalie Artzi gave an excellent talk regarding delivery of chemotherapy drugs to cancer cells using various biomaterials. She explained her research projects regarding the different cutting edge techniques which will help in the targeted delivery of chemotherapy. Overall her talk was very informative and inspiring, and gave us encouragement to pursue research in this field. Dr. Ajay Vishwakarma gave an informative talk on cancer immunotherapy and its relevance in current Covidscenario.
The seminar was followed by exciting events for the students like Hackathon, Sci-trait competition, Sci-venger, debate and quiz session. The event was held online and the event was managed by the students of MIT School of Bioengineering Sciences and Research. The valedictory ceremony was presided by Dr.BrajeshVarshney who gave complete detail of covid vaccines in India. He also discussed the strategies implemented by the government for the vaccine and the immunology of the vaccine. also gave The event concluded with speech by Dr.Rustom Modi praising the efforts of the students for conducting a great event, and the prize distribution ceremony for all winners of events.
