A. Key Skills in BIO

I] Biotechnology:
Biotechnology is a research-oriented field. Technical skills in biotechnology along with soft & transferable skills in order to get placed in a biotech or biopharmaceutical company are as follows.

  1. 1. Aseptic handling of microbes
  2. 2. Biochemical characterisation of bacteria
  3. 3. Identification of bacteria using 16s RNA sequence (In silico analysis: BLAST, Phylogenetic tree etc)
  4. 4. Aseptic handling of cell lines

II] Bioinformatics:

The ability to communicate complex ideas simply in the language of computers. A strong analytical mindset. A strong willingness to learn to program in one or more languages. For example, R, Python, Java, Julia, Shell, and/or C/C++. Following are the key skills in Bioinformatics.

  1. 1. Expertise in coding languages like Python/Perl/Java
  2. 2. Strong statistics background with proficiency in R/MATLAB
  3. 3. Reasonable knowledge of data mining/analytics
  4. 4. Experience with high throughput data analysis

III] Biomedical:

Students are trained in a wide range of medical, technical and administrative staff and, at times, patients in our associated hospitals.

  1. 1. Tissue engineering concepts.
  2. 2. Designing, developing, testing and modifying products, equipment and devices.
  3. 3. Internship and training program in hospital.
  4. 4. Handling medical equipment safely.

B. Key Skills In IT

Information Technology commonly referred to as IT, there are many job titles in the technology sector. From programming and database creation to providing general technical support, there are roles for people with many areas of interest, and many levels of expertise.

  1. 1. Coding - One of the basic skill sets an employer will look for in an IT professional is the ability to write code C/C++, Java, R, Python, HTML, Embedded C.
  2. 2. Database: MySQL , SQL Server.
  3. 3. Platform: Hadoop, Raspberry Pi, Ardino, Docker, TensorFlow
  4. 4. Use of SDLC in real time projects.

C. Soft Skills

Strong technical skills are essential for any industry position. However, any industry also needs soft skills, sometimes known as interpersonal skills. Today’s professionals need to be able to interact successfully with others, as well as manage projects and teams.

  1. 1. Communication skills.
  2. 2. Budgeting and money management.
  3. 3. Time management.
  4. 4. Critical thinking and problem-solving.
  5. 5. Taking constructive criticism.
