This discipline of science involves the application of life sciences, chemical sciences, mathematic, physical sciences and engineering sciences to precisely identify, define and solve the environmental problems in sustainable manner.

The department also hosts group of highly experienced faculty members in allied fields, industry experts, collaboration with other research facilities and strong alumni network.

The students at Mitbio are trained in Environmental chemistry, Microbiology, Environmental laws and policies, Management of wastes (Wastewater, Solid wastes, Faecal sludge, plastic wastes etc., Recycling and upcycling of waste in terms of resource recovery), Sanitation and hygiene, Environmental sustainability and Impact assessment, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Unit operations and Renewable energy sectors. The academic curriculum was carefully drafted as per current industry needs wherein student understand the concepts in classrooms and laboratories and apply the gained knowledge in the field. The students are also encouraged to develop to technologies and support their entrepreneurship interests via on campus incubation center.

As part of the academic curriculum, students need to carry out a six months research projects in collaboration with reputed industries. This will help a lot not only in having industry exposure but also to gain some insights about environmental problems at ground level making them industry ready in future.
